A film produced by a Nacogdoches High School graduate is at AMC Classic Theater this week and will have a special screening Thursday night at The Fredonia Hotel.
“Deep in the Heart” is produced by Katy Baldock, a member of the Class of 2013 at NHS, and is narrated by Matthew McConaughey.
The family-friendly film explores the range of wildlife that calls the Lone Star State home, “from the mysterious blind catfish to the elusive mountain lion,” part of a description that can be found on the movie’s website.
“The story follows our ever-changing relationship with the natural world and showcases our ability to destroy, conserve, and recover wildlife and the habitat we mutually depend on,” the website says. “‘Deep in the Heart’ aims to conserve our remaining wild places, to show the connectivity of water and wildlife, and to recognize Texas’ conservation importance on a continental scale.”
After graduating from NHS, Baldock studied communications, journalism and art at Texas A&M. According to her bio on the website for “Deep in the Heart,” Baldock was an associate producer on the Emmy-nominated feature documentary “The River and the Wall” and produced “American Ocelot,” another wildlife-based documentary.
Baldock will be in attendance at Thursday's screening at The Fredonia for a Q&A session. Tickets for the 7 p.m. showing at The Fredonia will be sold for $10 each at the door, or the film can be seen this week at AMC Classic Theater in Nacogdoches.
