​Nacogdoches High School’s Golden Dragon Marching Band received another First Division rating at the Region 21 contest Saturday at Lobo Stadium in Longview, earning 1s from all three judges. Results from Saturday’s contest extended the band’s run of top ratings to 42 since 1980. The NHS band will join with the McMichael Middle School band for a combined performance during halftime of Friday’s game at Dragon Stadium against Texas High. Friday is also the band barbecue fundraiser.

Kayla Hughes’ commitment to deaf education is quite personal. Her then-young daughter’s own diagnosis of being Deaf helped steer Hughes’ teaching career into deaf education. Hughes is now NISD’s Director of Deaf Education and oversees the Nacogdoches Regional Day School Program for the Deaf provides students from Nacogdoches ISD and 22 other school districts from five counties. ****UPDATE**** Contractors working for City of Nacogdoches will now conduct seal coat work WEDNESDAY, Sept. 21, on Maroney Drive behind Nacogdoches High School. (This had originally been scheduled for today [Sept. 20].) Work will begin around 8 a.m. Wednesday and is expected to be complete before school lets out in the afternoon. Anyone who enters or exits NHS parking lots by using Maroney Drive during that time frame should expect delays WEDNESDAY. Using alternate routes is encouraged.
