Nacogdoches ISD will begin serving Domino’s Pizza at lunch one day a month at elementary campuses beginning in December.
On the first day, Monday, Dec. 2, Mike Moses and Emeline Carpenter elementary students will receive pizza. On Dec. 9, pizza will be served at Thomas J. Rusk and Raguet. And on Dec. 16, Brooks-Quinn-Jones students will be served pizza. The program will expand in January to include Nacogdoches High School, Margie Chumbley Academy for Success and McMichael Middle School.
The agreement with Domino’s requires the pizza to meet federal school lunch requirements. The recipe Domino’s uses will include a whole grain crust, reduced fat cheese and reduced sodium pepperoni. Because of the ingredient changes, the pizza qualifies for reimbursement as part of the National School Lunch Program.
On days the pizza is served, one slice will be included with the regular lunch students receive. The meal will also include a choice of two vegetables, one fruit and milk.
“I’m really excited about this,” said Laurie Stamper, Nacogdoches ISD’s Director of Student Nutrition. “This will bring some variety to our meals, and I think our students will enjoy the option.”
Nacogdoches ISD is a Community Eligibility Provision school district, meaning lunch and breakfast are free to all students (including the slice of Domino’s pizza). Students will be able to purchase an additional piece of pizza at $2.50. Adults can purchase lunch for $4.85.
