Second and third-graders from Raguet Elementary showcased what they have been learning this spring in music class. They sang four songs, which came with unique choreography and harmonies.
Led by music teacher Amber Fontenot, the collaborative grade-level performance encourages students to learn from one another, rather than strictly from the teacher. It also lets the third-grade students work on new and exciting roles in music. The piece "A Brand New Song" featured a two-part vocal split. The third-grade students took on the challenge of singing harmony, while the second-grade students were responsible for the melody.
Between each song, Fontenot would bring up a selection of students to recite quotes by a famous musician or lover of music ranging from Plato and Louis Armstrong to Bono and Rhianna. “When students learn that music is this wonderful thing that has deeply impacted people of all backgrounds, it allows them to let music do the same for them,” Fontenot said. “Our next musical showcase on March 26 will feature our kindergarten and first-grade students. I don't want to spoil anything but I can assure you that you won't want to miss it!”
