Lady Dragons track team with district trophy

Nacogdoches High School’s varsity girls track and field team swept to victory Tuesday in the district meet held in Whitehouse. It’s the first time in at least 25 years the Lady Dragons brought home a team district title, Coach Chris Moody said.

Nacogdoches totaled 149 points, easily outdistancing second place Texas High’s 98 points.

Christine Schick scored a team-high 22 points, which was third best overall. JaRiyah King had 19 points and Cailyn Williams was responsible for 16 points.

The top four finishers in each event qualify for the area track and field meet that takes place April 11 at Anna High School.

Schick led three Nacogdoches qualifiers in the pole vault. Schick was first, Mia Weems was second and Ravenna Rahman was fourth.

Williams finished first in the 100-meter hurdles, and Na’Riyah was second. Greta Depetris won the 400 dash, and Livia Whitaker finished third. Schick was second in the 300 hurdles. Avery Hardcastle was third in the 1600 run and third in the 800, and the 1600 relay team of Depetris, Jayla Redwin, Whitaker and Schick finished second.

Jayla Garrett was second in shot put, Zion Johnson was second in long jump and King was third. King also won the triple jump, and Ke’Asia Griffin finished fourth. Williams was third in high jump. The 400 relay (Griffin, Johnson, Ja’Riah Sutton and King) finished fourth.
