Swim team

Nacogdoches High School’s swim team finished second in the District 16-5A championships on Saturday at New Caney ISD's Community Resource Credit Union Natatorium. Twenty-one Dragon swimmers advanced to regionals.

District champions from Nacogdoches include Livia Whitaker in the intermediate and 100-yard fly; Grant Copen in the intermediate and 100 breaststroke; Ryan Bowyer in the 100 free; the boys medley including Bowyer, Copen, Clayton Coffee and Jack Stafford; the boys 400 relay including Bowyer, Owen Allen, Coffee and Stafford; and the girls 400 relay including Whitaker, Madeline Richey, Jocelyne Lopez and Miki Puffer.

Other swimmers qualifying for the regional meet include, Pepper Hill, Laura Drewery, Kylie Cook, Kyra Blackmon, Sophie Willardson, Lexa Willardson, Margie Lewallen, Cy Scroggins, Micah Kinman, James Wright, Gavin Whitaker and Morgan Douglas. 

The Class 5A Region IV championships will be held Feb. 7-8, also at the natatorium in New Caney.
