Nacogdoches High School senior Nixon Long shattered the school’s cross country record Thursday in Lufkin and won the District 10-5A championship. Nixon’s time of 16 minutes, 8 seconds was eight seconds better than the runner-up at the district meet.
Boys cross country runners cover five kilometers – or roughly 3.1 miles.
Up next for Nixon is the regional meet at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 22, at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie.
Nixon’s record-breaking time on Thursday topped his own mark set earlier this month. He also holds the school’s track and field record in the mile run set last spring.
