It was quite the weekend for Nacogdoches High School’s Toni Saucedo.
The NHS senior won the Medical Art Poster contest at the HOSA State Conference on Saturday and also won the Deep East Texas regional competition in the 17th Congressional District’s “Patriotism in America” art contest on Friday.
U.S. Representative Pete Sessions was on hand Friday for the announcement held at the Cole Art Center in downtown Nacogdoches. Sessions represents the 17th Congressional District, which includes Nacogdoches County.
Saucedo’s two works – “Break: of Light and Age” and “Playing Under Grandma’s Blanket” – earned her a second straight Deep East Texas win. Saucedo’s works will be entered into the Congressional district-wide contest, and the winner will be announced later this spring. Because Saucedo was at the HOSA conference on Friday her mother and sister received the award from Sessions.

On Saturday, Saucedo also learned her entry had won first place in the Medical Art Poster contest at the HOSA Spring Leadership Conference.
Saucedo’s entries on the Congressional Art Contest were not the only works recognized from NHS students. Sophomore Alicia Dowell also placed in the contest.
