Nacogdoches ISD’s Fine Arts Showcase takes place 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 13, at Nacogdoches High School. The district art show will be set up in the NHS Main Commons; all performances will take place in the NHS auditorium, located across the breezeway from the commons area.
District Art Show: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., NHS Main Commons
Visual art instruction is provided for students from Pre-K through 12th. General courses are taught at the Pre-K/elementary and middle school levels, which lead to more specialized offerings of ceramics, sculpture, and more in high school. Elementary Music: 10 a.m.
The Elementary Honor Choir consists of general music students from each of the district’s elementary schools. General music courses are provided to all students at the Pre-K/elementary levels which leads to more specialized offerings such as band and choir on secondary campuses. *Elementary Music Specialists: Alice Codieck (Thomas J. Choir Department: 10:30 a.m.
With an emphasis on school pride and unity, NISD Choirs focuses not only on musical instruction, but on leadership, teamwork, communication, independence and dedication. The main objective for all members of the choir program is the discovery of music and vocal techniques through preparation and performance of quality choral literature. Choral courses are offered from sixth- through 12th-grade. *Choir Directors: Nathan Ponder (NHS), Aaron Dominguez (McMichael).
SFA Music Preparatory Division (Partnership): 11 a.m.
The Stephen F. Austin State University Preparatory Division has partnered with NISD in offering 10 of our fourth-grade students after-school string lessons. *Division Director: Alba Madrid (SFASU).
Dance Department: 11:30 a.m.
NISD’s dance program aims to not only provide students dance, choreograph, and performance skills, but to educate each individual to become self-motivated, competent and life-long learners equipped for the challenges of a competitive, diverse and ever-changing society. Dance courses and organizations are offered at the secondary level. *Dance Teachers: Lisa Fuller (NHS Dragonettes), Laura Hairston and Lynne Bryan (NHS Cheerleaders), Cody Hudnall (NHS Dance), Raegan Reyna (McMichael Drill Team), Suzanna Sanchez (McMichael Cheerleaders) and Shae Pritchard (McMichael Dance).
Band Department: Noon
The band program begins in the sixth-grade year introducing students to basic instrumental music fundamentals and continues through the 12th-grade concluding, with a full curriculum of concert and marching instruction. *Band Directors: Jacob Weems (Director of Bands), Crispin Bradsher (NHS-Asst.), Robbie Belk (NHS-Asst.), Crystal Bradsher (McMichael Head Band Director), Jessica White (McMichael-Asst.), Troy Beam (McMichael-Asst.), and Blake Watson (McMichael-Asst.).
Theatre Department: 1 p.m.
The theatre program introduces students to all aspects of the stage by providing a strong foundation of historical and dramatic literature, acting, technical/production areas and design.
