Saturday was a record-setter for the Nacogdoches High School Dragons swim team.
Ava Whitaker set a Class 5A state record in the girls 100-yard butterfly preliminaries on Friday at the Texas UIL State Swimming & Diving Meet in Austin.
That mark didn’t stand long.
Whitaker shattered it again a day later while winning gold with a time of 52.36 seconds. Whitaker also won silver in the girls 200 intermediate race with a time of 2:00.15. The senior swimmer was named the 5A Athlete of the State Meet afterwards.
The Dragons’ Alister Jackson finished fourth in the boys 100 freestyle with a time of 45.75, a new Nacogdoches High School record.
The boys 200 freestyle relay of Jackson, Clayton Coffee, Jackson Stafford and Garrett Schmid finished 16th in the state Saturday.
