Another UIL state swim meet and another set of qualifiers from Nacogdoches High School.
Ava Whitaker of NHS will enter the Class 5A UIL Swimming & Diving Meet Friday with the top qualifying time in the girls 100-yard butterfly and the third best time in the 200 intermediate medley. She was an automatic qualifier in both races.
The Dragons’ Alister Jackson was also an automatic qualifier in the boys 200 freestyle and the 100 freestyle. Jackson enters the meet with the third best qualifying time in Class 5A in the 100 freestyle.
Joining Whitaker and Jackson are Clayton Coffee, Jackson Stafford and Garrett Schmid, who along with Jackson, earned a call-up to the state meet in the 200 freestyle relay.
The NHS girls team finished third overall at the regional meet held earlier this month at New Caney. The boys team finished fifth overall.
Swimming preliminaries in the Class 5A meet begin Friday, and finals will be held Saturday. The meet takes place at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center at the University of Texas at Austin.
