Nacogdoches ISD trustees on March 24 adopted changes to attendance zones for the district’s elementary schools. The new map, which can be VIEWED HERE, goes into effect for the 2022-23 academic year.
Several construction projects funded by the 2018 bond package will be coming online in the next few months, and the new and renovated facilities will result in changes to attendance zones for some elementary schools.
As part of the process of adjusting attendance boundaries, the district held three public meetings at the end of February and first week of March to collect input from parents and stakeholders.
By the time the next school year begins, the following changes will take place:
EMELINE CARPENTER ELEMENTARY – The new campus that was funded by the passage of the 2018 bond will be completed sometime this spring and completely ready for students in August of 2022. All students currently attending and scheduled to return next academic year to the current Carpenter are guaranteed to be at the new campus.
FREDONIA ELEMENTARY – Fredonia will close at the end of the 2021-22 school year and a renovation and expansion project begins that will convert the campus into a Pre-K center.
NETTIE MARSHALL – After the 2021-22 school year ends, the campus will no longer host elementary students. For the 2022-23 academic year, Nettie Marshall will serve as the district’s Pre-K campus while Fredonia undergoes renovation. The dual-language program currently at Nettie Marshall would move to Thomas J. Rusk Elementary.
MIKE MOSES MIDDLE SCHOOL – Once the current academic year ends, Mike Moses will be converted to an elementary school. When the 2022-23 school year begins in August, Mike Moses will host students attending kindergarten through fifth-grade.
MCMICHAEL MIDDLE SCHOOL – Because Moses is being converted to an elementary campus, all students attending grades 6-8 during the 2022-23 academic year will attend McMichael, which has been enlarged. The construction project added new classrooms, including a completely new wing on the north side of the building. Other parts of the facility, including the cafeteria, were also expanded to handle a larger student population.
