Christine Schick on the winner's podium

Micah Lockett and Christine Schick are area champions, and their seasons likely won’t stop at this weekend’s regional track and field meet.

Lockett cleared a school record 7-feet, 1-inch to win the boys high jump April 11 at Anna High School. Lockett, a state qualifier a year ago as a sophomore, now has one of the top high jumps in the nation this spring.

Schick was also a state qualifier a year ago. Last week, the senior cleared 12-0 to move on to the regional meet that will be held Friday and Saturday at the University of Texas in Arlington.

Lockett and Schick will have teammates with them this weekend. Sophomore Kaden Brooks finished third in high jump, and freshman Braylon Horton was third in the 110-meter hurdles with a school record 14.62 seconds.

In the girls' meet, Greta Depetris advanced in the 400 dash with a time of 1:00.17 to finish fourth. Jayla Garrett was fourth in the shot put with a throw of 33-7 and Zion Johnson was fourth in long jump with 17-9 3/4.

The girls 1600 relay of Avery Hardcastle, JaRiyah King, Livia Whitaker and Depetris didn’t advance to regionals but set a new school record with a time of 4:02.12 to finish fifth.
