McMichael Middle School’s choir brought home first division ratings on stage and in sight-reading Wednesday at Legacy High School in Tyler, part of the University Interscholastic League Region 21 Concert and Sight-Reading competition.

The Treble choir from McMichael received top ratings from all judges in its stage performance and in the sight-reading portion of the contest.

McMichael also entered a second choir in the competition (that’s a first for the campus). The Tenor-Bass choir also earned top ratings in both concert and sight-reading.

Aaron Dominguez, choir director at McMichael, has resurrected the program. No choirs from the school participated in regionals from 2018 to 2023, said Deshmond Johnson, Nacogdoches ISD’s Director of Fine Arts. And 2014 was the last time a McMichael choir achieved top marks at regionals.

“This is a significant milestone for the program,” Johnson said. “It highlights the tremendous growth and development of the choirs under the direction of Mr. Dominguez, as well as the support of McMichael’s campus administrators.”
