Third-graders in Nacogdoches ISD started “The Lemonade War” Tuesday, Feb. 11, part of the Texas Reads One Book program that introduces chapter books across the state.
Volunteer readers from the district gathered at NISD’s five elementary campuses to read the first chapter of “The Lemonade War.” In the coming days, third-graders will finish the book at home, on their or with their families.
In “The Lemonade War,” students read about siblings Jessie and Evan Treski, who are drawn into a battle along family lines during the final week of a long, hot summer. The story works readers through the siblings’ competition to see who can sell the most lemonade before school restarts in a week’s time.
Texas Reads One Book is part of the Read to Them organization, which encourages schools and districts across Texas and other states to have students read one book together at the same time.
