Nine Dragon swimmers qualified Saturday for the Class 5A Swimming & Diving Meet that will be held in Austin later this month.
Livia Whitaker earned berths in the 100 butterfly with a second place finish, and in the 200 individual medley by finishing third. It’s the sophomore’s second year to qualify for the state swimming meet. Livia also qualified with the 200 medley relay team with Miki Puffer, Jocelyne Lopez and Pepper Hill.
The girls 400 freestyle relay of Madeline Richey, Miki, Jocelyne and Livia posted a new school record time in the race.
The Lady Dragons scored 239 points, good enough to finish fourth overall Saturday in the Region IV meet held at Community Resource Credit Union Natatorium in New Caney.
The boys 400 freestyle relay team (Clayton Coffee, Owen Allen, Jack Stafford and Ryan Bowyer) finished third and will advance to the state meet. The boys 200 medley relay team (Clayton, Grant Copen, Jack and Ryan) will also advance, and Grant also qualified in the 100 breaststroke.
The Class 5A State Swimming & Diving Meet will be held Feb. 21-22 at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin.
