Leadership for tomorro'w Texas School Board Recognition Month January 2025

January is School Board Recognition Month, and Nacogdoches ISD is celebrating its trustees for their dedication and commitment to the district and its students. This month is an opportunity to recognize and acknowledge the vital contributions of locally elected school boards across Texas.

The theme of this year’s School Board Recognition Month is “Leadership for Tomorrow’s Texas,” which spotlights the important role school trustees play in guiding the future of not only public education but our communities in general.

“There’s really no way to overstate the critical part our board plays in the success of public education in Nacogdoches,” said Superintendent Dr. Gabriel Trujillo. “Our board members are necessary for many of the successes we have in the community, and their dedication, vision and commitment shape the future of our schools and students.”

NISD’s Board of Trustees include: President Farshid Niroumand, Vice President T.C. Grohman M.D., Secretary Leabeth Abt, the Rev. James Ervin, James Montoya, the Rev. Kallie Pitcock and Mindy Winslow.

In Texas, school boards are designed to serve as the link between the community and classroom, and trustees are elected to establish policies that provide a durable framework for public schools to operate within.

“Since I arrived in Nacogdoches now almost five years ago, our board has proven eager to acknowledge the difficult and vital work of our teachers and staff,” Trujillo said. “Their support means so much to me.”
