Nacogdoches High School Alumni Association honored Dottie McClain as a Distinguished Alum before last week’s home football game against Hallsville.
McClain is a Nacogdoches native and 1984 graduate of NHS. And since 1999, she’s been a teacher and counselor for Nacogdoches ISD, including the last years as a counselor at the high school campus.
While at NHS as a student, McClain was a member of the first Lady Dragon Golf Team, which placed first in district all four years of her high school career and advanced to regionals and the state competition. McClain also served on the Student Council and the Future Teachers of America organization and was active in meetings and supporting their activities.
After graduation, McClain attended SFA and majored in elementary education. After college, she began her career working in the medical field as a patient-care coordinator at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas and then Renaissance Hospital in Houston.
While working in healthcare, McClain realized her true passion was being with children. Upon her return to Nacogdoches in 1999, she began her teaching career at Emeline Carpenter Elementary.
Since 2013, Dottie has been at Nacogdoches High School, where she has been a grade level counselor in grades 9 through 12. This has been particularly rewarding, as she has reconnected with many of the students she had in elementary school. Since becoming a counselor at Nacogdoches High School, she has been a regular attendee at Dragon sporting events and other extracurricular activities, lending her support to all NHS academics and activities.
