There are so many things happening this week and next…
But first, let me mention the two biggest things happening next week: Graduation for Nacogdoches High School is next Friday, May 24, at 8 p.m. in the William R. Johnson Coliseum at Stephen F. Austin State University. And graduation for Margie Chumble Academy for Success is one night earlier, Thursday, May 23, at 6 p.m. in the competition gym at Nacogdoches High School. These are milestone events for our students and their families and for our faculty.
So… this is just a sampling for what all is taking place this weekend: Beginning tonight – in fact it’s taking place right this moment – is the Spring Production for the Dragonettes, cheerleaders and twirlers at the NHS auditorium. Lots and lots of students are involved in that, and you can check the NISD website for times for those performances the remainder of the weekend.
Additionally, tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. in the NHS auditorium, will be the Senior Scholarship Assembly. So many scholarships, grants and awards are given to our seniors. We often comment on how long the ceremony lasts, but the truth is there are so many scholarships, grants and awards given to our seniors there’s no way it won’t take a while. But it is reassuring to see the staggering number of accomplishments of our students…
Also, tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at Dragon Stadium, Coach House and his high school football team will be holding their intrasquad scrimmage to wrap up spring practices.
Last night, at the Malcolm Rector Center for Advanced Careers and Innovation, NISD held its GT Showcase, an opportunity to put on display some of its best work from students ranging from our elementary grades up through high school. I was there, and I saw so many outstanding projects and works that are so indicative of the talent our students bring to the table… just outstanding work.
Earlier this week, 51 of our NHS students participated in CTE Senior Signing Day. CTE students at NHS who have already secured a job within their field of study or have been accepted to a college, university or technical school or branch of the military to continue their CTE pathway/studies signed agreements during the ceremony. This is a great, great event that NISD has now held four times. It’s an excellent opportunity to showcase the breadth and depth of talent and ability of our student body!
Those are just a handful of all the great things taking place these last few days of school, and it doesn’t even touch on the end of year assemblies and celebrations taking place at all of our campuses around the district. It’s an exciting time and a reminder of all the good things taking place at Nacogdoches ISD!
