Three Nacogdoches High School students earned high marks at the regional and area Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) held Saturday.
Senior Toni Saucedo entered two pieces employing forced perspective; both advanced to the state level competition that will take place at the end of April.
All art pieces that scored 4 out of 4 points in the regional in Longview advanced to the area competition held the same afternoon. From there, the top 10 percent of entries were advanced on to the state competition. Entries advancing on to the state competition were held and will be forwarded on to the state competition.
Saucedo has had numerous contest winners during her career at NHS. Most recently, she advanced to the Future Health Professionals state competition (formerly HOSA) with a medical poster she designed. That competition is also in April.

Joining Saucedo at the VASE event last weekend was sophomore Pepper Hill who earned 4 out of 4 points with her piece – based on a photo of her pet dog – that focused on color saturation and light reflection.
Isabelle Turnham, a freshman, earned 3 out of 4 points with her selection of using different mediums to create a portrait of a fox. It was Isabelle’s first entry in the VASE contest.
Pepper and Isabelle are in Amanda Abbott’s art class at NHS. Toni is a long time art participant, having completed ceramics last year.
