C. Superintendent Announcements – Dr. Gabriel Trujillo

It’s been a good year for Nacogdoches ISD basketball teams. Our Lady Dragons finished third in district and advanced to the playoffs for the second consecutive year. The NHS boys have won 22 games, finished second in District 16-5A and play Hallsville next Tuesday in a bi-district playoff. And McMichael Middle School is right there with them. The 7th-grade girls at McMichael finished 11-1 this season, including posting a 9-0 regular season mark and finishing as runner-up in the district tournament. And the 8th-grade boys won both district and tournament championships and finished the season with a perfect 15-0 mark. I know that Coach House is excited about this group of eighth-graders as they transition to the high school ranks next year.

Seven students from Nacogdoches High School qualified for the Texas Science and Engineering Fair next month in College Station. Grace Hao, Kathryn Boyett, Sterling Smith, Rogelio Garcia, Sam Bentley, Viviana Chavarria and Xilone Puffer will show their projects March 22-23 at the statewide event. They advance to the state meet after competing in the regional science fair last weekend in Kilgore. One of the students, Xilone, presented her project virtually because she was in New Caney with the NHS swim team…

Which leads into our annual announcement that NHS swimmers have once again qualified for the state swimming and diving meet later this month. Livia Whitaker, Jocelyne Lopez, Miki Puffer and Carley Scroggins will be in Austin February 23rd and 24th. The Dragons finished third overall last weekend in the regional swim meet. It’s another outstanding performance by our swimmers!

Nacogdoches High School’s Academic UIL Team won the overall title at a competition in Livingston last weekend. The NHS team was the top point winner and also brought home first place trophies in speech, current events and journalism.
