Mark Moore, a 1983 graduate of Nacogdoches High School, has been named by the NHS Alumni Association as a Distinguished Alumnus. He will be recognized prior to Friday’s football game at Dragon Stadium. The game will kick off at 7:30 p.m.
After graduating from NHS Moore played football at Oklahoma State. He graduated in 1986 with a major in sociology and was a three-time All-American at safety for the Cowboys’ football team. Moore was also a Jim Thorpe award finalist in 1986, the inaugural year of the award that goes to the best defensive back in college football.
In 1987, Moore went in the third round of the NFL draft to the Seattle Seahawks, where he played until 1989. He also played in New York from 1991 to 1992.
In 2016 Moore moved to Tulsa, where he currently works at Jenks Middle School as the In-House Supervisor and Football Defensive Coordinator. He also serves with the non-profit Cowboys in the Community, a group of former Oklahoma State athletes who have come together to serve their communities.
Mark is married to Holli Moore and has three children, Paisley, Tate and Quentin.
During his playing days in Nacogdoches, Moore proudly wore No. 44 with the Dragon and credits Coach Steve McCarty as a huge influence in his high school years.
“Coach McCarty truly showed me how to be a leader and a man,” Moore said.
