Nacogdoches High School’s Jordan Cleaver designed this year’s homecoming T-shirt, and students in Mary Okray’s graphic design class screen-printed the design for sale among students and staff.
Jordan is a sophomore at NHS and won the contest to design this year’s shirt, Okray said. Jordan’s drawing is the outline of a fierce-looking Dragon’s head with different sports represented by a football, baseball, volleyball and basketball.
Jordan and some of his fellow classmates then got to help with the printing process.
“We let them learn to screenprint and make the school’s T-shirts,” Okray said.
The screen printing operation at NHS started in October, nearly a year ago. So far this new school year, the class has printed roughly 1,000 shirts for different organizations, Okray said, including the Blackout T-shirts sold before the football game with Lumberton.
The screen printing class also produced T-shirts that are being sold leading up to the annual Pink Out home football game with Mount Pleasant on Oct. 13.
Senior Ytzabella Miranda is the student leader in the school’s screen printing operation. Ytzabella finished fourth last year in Texas in a screen printing competition held by SkillsUSA, a state and national organization that holds competitions for students in career and technical education classes.
