A U.S. Army Adventure 18-wheeler arrived at Nacogdoches High School Sept. 6. Throughout the day, more than 100 career and technical education and government students rotated through the trailer, where they were provided with opportunities to man an AH-64 Apache helicopter simulator, a CH-47 Chinook helicopter simulator and a roller coaster virtual reality player.
The 18-wheeler that visited NHS is one of several traveling U.S. Army trailers that are used to create student interest while informing them about some of the many job and service opportunities available.
The exhibit offers a combination of hands-on and interactive systems, such as flying or firing weapons on a helicopter or improving marksmanship using a target system.
“This was an awesome experience for our students, giving them a real hands-on experience,” said NHS Principal Stephen Autrey.
The Army 18-wheelers help in recruiting and enhance public awareness. Nacogdoches-area Army recruiters represent just a few of the regular military visitors NHS receives from all branches. Recruiters visit with juniors and seniors about future service in the U.S.military.
