Smart Tag ID cards

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we start the school year, we would like to take a moment to emphasize the importance of students wearing their Smart Tag/school identification (ID) cards. At Nacogdoches ISD the safety and security of our students are paramount, and school ID cards play a crucial role in maintaining a secure and nurturing, learning environment.

Here are some key points highlighting the safety benefits of students wearing their school ID cards:

1.  Issuance of photo Smart Tag/Identification Card:  Each student has been issued a photo Smart Tag/Identification card, lanyard, and card sleeve to start the school year.

2. Enhanced Access Control: School IDs serve as a quick and effective means of verifying the identity of individuals on our campus. By wearing their IDs, students can easily access school facilities while limiting access to unauthorized personnel.

3. Identification of Students: In the event of an emergency or unexpected situation, school IDs help school staff and emergency responders quickly identify students. This enables us to ensure that all students are accounted for and receive the necessary assistance.

4. Prevention of Unauthorized Entry: School IDs also assist in preventing unauthorized individuals from entering the school premises. Our staff is trained to check IDs, which adds an extra layer of security to our school.

5. Bus and Transportation Safety: For students who use school transportation, wearing their ID card is essential. Upon loading and unloading the bus, your student will need to scan their ID.  This helps bus drivers and monitors verify that the right students are boarding the bus, ensuring their safe transportation to and from school. 

Parents can monitor their students’ bus activity live using the Smart Tag parent portal.  Parents can sign up for the Smart Tag parent portal by visiting the NISD website.  Please see the link below:

6. Efficient Communication: In case of a medical issue or if we need to contact parents during school hours, having accurate and up-to-date contact information on the ID cards ensures that we can reach you promptly.

7. Visual Deterrent: The visibility of school IDs acts as a deterrent to outsiders who may have harmful intentions. It sends a clear message that our school takes security seriously.

We kindly request your support in ensuring that your child wears their school ID card at all times while on school grounds. Please take a moment to review the ID card with your child, ensuring that their photo and information are accurate and up-to-date.

If your child loses their ID card, please contact the school office immediately for a replacement. We will make every effort to ensure a quick and smooth replacement process.
