Superintendent Dr. Gabriel Trujillo receives award from NISD Fine Arts Director Deshmond Johnson

Nacogdoches ISD Superintendent Dr. Gabriel Trujillo has been named a Distinguished Administrator by Texas Music Education Association.

The TMEA award program recognizes school administrators whose support has been critical to the music program successes in schools across Texas.

Trujillo was nominated for the award by Deshmond Johnson, NISD’s Director of Fine Arts. The superintendent was presented with the award Saturday during the district’s Fine Arts Showcase at Thomas J. Rusk Elementary.

“The mission of our district is to provide quality educational experiences for students to succeed in a competitive, diverse, and ever-changing society, and Dr. Trujillo is committed to using the fine arts to enable all students music opportunities to fulfill the mission statement of our school,” Johnson said. “Each of Nacogdoches ISD campuses consists of a music program with a certified teacher. Students on all grade levels, Pre-K through 12th-grade, can experience music as a resource to succeed.”

Johnson said Trujillo’s support for arts in the district has not wavered, even during the pandemic.

“When faced with the challenges of COVID-19, Dr. Trujillo did not put a rest in the symbolic composition of the district,” he said. “Mission and vision statements are simply words unless there is action. We appreciate the actions of our superintendent for the advancement of music in Nacogdoches ISD.”
