Inclement Weather Procedures

If inclement weather moves into the Nacogdoches ISD area, the Superintendent will make a decision to delay or cancel school on the day in question. If conditions worsen during regular school hours, a decision will be made as soon as possible to determine if early release is needed. Because of the vagaries of forecasting – particularly during an East Texas winter and spring – sometimes the decision must be made at the latest possible time.

Decisions made by the Superintendent regarding closing school or delaying the start time will apply to students and all NISD staff, except for certain pre-notified personnel (such as plant services, custodial, etc.).

Below is the Nacogdoches ISD procedure for inclement weather:

  • After reaching an assessment of weather conditions utilizing our contacts with Texas Department of Public Safety, Nacogdoches County, Nacogdoches Police Department and the National Weather Service, the Superintendent will determine by 4 a.m. whether school will be delayed or canceled outright. While road conditions may vary based on location, the Superintendent’s decision will be based on conditions within the entire district. (This process will include input from transportation, facilities and administrative personnel.)

  • By 5 a.m., NISD Communications will make every effort to begin notification of students, parents, staff and community.

  • Once the decision is made, the information will be distributed through:

    • NacISD.org

    • Facebook @nacogdoches.isd

    • Twitter @NacISD

    • Download the Nacogdoches ISD mobile app [iphone] [android]

    • District text-email-call-out using our automated communication system. Parents should make sure their contact information is updated with NISD campuses.
