Work underway on NISD bus center

Construction is progressing on the $3.36 million renovation and expansion of Nacogdoches ISD’s transportation center located along NE Stallings Drive adjacent to the high school.

The project is part of the $77.9 million bond package approved by NISD voters in November of 2018.

Much of the facility has already been demolished and forms are being set up before additional concrete is poured around the existing garage, which is being renovated and enlarged.

While construction continues, transportation offices are being housed in temporary facilities set up in the parking lot of nearby Dragon Stadium. Buses, when not in use, are also parked at the stadium or at Malcolm Rector Technical High School located on North Street

Once complete, the remodeled transportation center will have a new bus wash and fuel station as well as new offices and meeting rooms. Also, the parking lot will be resurfaced.

During their October meeting, NISD trustees approved the project’s cost of $3,364,900, which came in about $1.5 million less than the amount budgeted by the district.
