Work progresses at transportation center

Construction continues on the $3.36 million renovation and expansion of Nacogdoches ISD’s transportation center located along NE Stallings Drive adjacent to the high school.

The project is part of the $77.9 million bond package approved by NISD voters in November of 2018.

Crews have started pouring concrete around the existing facility included in the renovation portion of the project. Additional office space is also being added on the south side of the building.

Plans call for the garage to be renovated and expanded. Much of the interior of the remaining building has already been stripped away.

While construction continues, district transportation offices are being housed in temporary facilities set up in the parking lot of nearby Dragon Stadium. Buses, when not in use, are also parked at the stadium or at Malcolm Rector Technical High School located on North Street

Once complete, the remodeled and enlarged transportation center will have a new bus wash and fuel station as well as new offices and meeting rooms. Also, the parking lot will be resurfaced. The project is expected to take about nine months to complete.
