Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting Thursday morning at NISD’s Transportation Center to celebrate the opening of the facility.

The renovation and expansion of the transportation center is the first of the major projects completed related to the 2018 bond approved by NISD voters. The center went into use in August 2020, but NISD delayed a grand opening  because of the pandemic.

Pam Fitch, President of NISD’s Board of Trustees, spoke during Thursday’s ceremony. Also addressing those in attendance were Superintendent Dr. Gabriel Trujillo, Nacogdoches Mayor Jimmy Mize and Ted Smith, Chairman of the Board of Directors for the chamber of commerce.

Thursday’s ribbon cutting is just the beginning for celebrations marking new facilities in the district. Over the next several months, grand openings will be held for the Malcolm Rector Center for Advanced Careers and Innovation at Nacogdoches High School, the new Emeline Carpenter Elementary School and the expansion of McMichael Middle School.
