Plant Services work through holidays

The holidays are a busy time for Nacogdoches ISD’s Plant Services Department. While students and staff are out of the buildings, work crews can complete improvements and conduct additional cleaning during the two-week Christmas break.

At Emeline Carpenter Elementary, the district’s Custodial Department completed a deep clean of all areas of the campus, followed by a thorough fogging of disinfectant inside rooms, offices and all commons areas.

A roof leak was resolved at Malcolm Rector Technical High School, allowing Plant Services to replace an interior wall at the campus.

At Nacogdoches High School, Plant Services installed a glass door for the Career and Technical Education Department. Crews also replaced a hallway window with a sliding glass window.

Gym floors around the district are resurfaced during the holiday break. Although one floor was marred by someone walking on it too early, the contractor was able to complete the repair before the restart of classes.

Plant Services crews also worked on their own facility, replacing an employee-access door. The metal door frame that was replaced was an original structural part of the 1950’s metal building, making for a challenging repair job.

“Just like the district’s teachers and campus personnel, student nutrition and transportation staff, Plant Services crews are exposed to the threat of COVID-19 infection,” said Ralph LaRue, NISD’s Director of Facilities and Construction. “Many of these custodial teams as well as other Plant Services staff have been working on the front lines since the pandemic began more than nine months ago. I applaud their commitment to keeping our schools safe and in operation.”
