Nacogdoches High School junior Emily Patrick’s charcoal drawing was included last month in a display at the TASA/TASB conference held at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas. Emily is a Drawing II student of Amanda Heron at NHS.

Emily’s “Stone Face” was the first Nacogdoches ISD work to be featured in the annual exhibition that’s part of the combined event hosted by Texas Association of School Administrators and Texas Association of School Boards.

Paulette Tomlinson, NISD Director of Fine Arts, said the display fulfills the first requirement for the district to be named a Texas Arts Education Association District of Distinction for the 2021-22 academic year.

“We were thrilled to see Nacogdoches ISD represented by such a talented young artist for the TASA/TASB art exhibition,” said Tomlinson. “We are proud of our exceptional students and faculty in the visual art department.

“Having NISD represented at this event is a testament to the support our fine arts department receives from our school district, families, and community. We look forward to continuing to make Nacogdoches proud.”

The charcoal drawing is not Emily’s first work to be featured by TAEA. In 2019, Emily had a piece selected for the group’s Youth Art Month State Capitol Exhibit.
