Leadership Nac spends the day with NISD

Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce’s leadership development program spent the day with NISD on Thursday as part of Education Day.

Nacogdoches ISD Superintendent Dr. Gabriel Trujillo began the morning for Leadership Nacogdoches. That was followed by a “Fish Bowl,” where NISD staff were asked a series of questions about education as well as their own backgrounds and how they became educators themselves.

Principal Gerald Fonzie from Brooks-Quinn-Jones Elementary, RTI coordinator Kylie Altier, also from BQJ, Director of College and Career Readiness Jacob Lusk and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Daya Hill were guided through the questioning by NISD’s Erin Windham and Les Linebarger.

Later on, the four staff members took part in a panel discussion and were asked questions by Leadership Nac class members.

The chamber class took part in a STAAR exam exercise, answering 11 questions from a released test for Texas eighth-graders.

During the afternoon, with NISD’s Director of Facilities and Construction Ralph LaRue serving as guide, the class visited district construction sites at McMichael Middle School, the new Emeline Carpenter Elementary and the new Career and Technical Education Center.
