January is Board Appreciation Month

The challenge involved in providing an excellent educational experience for the many, varied students in a public school district is a challenge that requires dedication and creativity in the best of times. The year 2020 was not the best of times.

The past year required an unusual combination of skills and talents from district leaders. Unexpected circumstances arising from a worldwide pandemic resulted in changes in laws and regulations, and those changes required adaptability and problem solving at the district level by administrators and board members.

Nacogdoches ISD will join 1,024 school districts throughout Texas to celebrate January as School Board Recognition Month.

“Our school board members are volunteers who shoulder critical responsibilities and often make difficult choices for our district, all without pay. Their goal is always focused on the future success of the children in our district,” NISD Superintendent Dr. Gabriel Trujillo said. “Celebrating School Board Recognition Month is one way to say thanks for all they do.”

School board members serve as a link between the community and classroom and are elected to establish the policies that provide the framework for public schools.

Board members serving NISD are: President Pam Fitch, Vice President James Montoya, Secretary Mindy Winslow, Leabeth Abt, Rev. James Ervin, Dr. Tyrrel Grohman, M.D., and Farshid Niroumand.

“It’s more important than ever before that communities support public education so that today’s students are prepared to be productive citizens and the leaders of tomorrow,” Trujillo said. “Please let board members know we support them and that their dedicated service is recognized and truly appreciated.”
