Dragon’s United takes place 9 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, May 22, at Nacogdoches High School. Dragons United is an affiliate of the United Schools Special Olympics initiative.

A pep rally for Dragons United will take place in the morning in the Nacogdoches High School competition gym. Following the pep rally, student volunteers and participants will move to Dragon Stadium for field day activities. General education students will partner with special needs students throughout the day.

“This has been a school-wide effort,” said Audrey Young, Director of Nacogdoches ISD Student Support Services. “We want to bring Nacogdoches High School students together, regardless of background or exceptionality. This day is about celebrating as a united student body.”

“We’re extremely proud of our students for coming together to make this event possible,” said Dr. Rom Crespo, NHS Principal.

Don Hasley, Director of Career and Technical Education said “the Career and Technical Education Department and Student Support Services Department have worked diligently to educate the students and involve everyone in the process of bringing this day together.”

Leslie Gregory, an NHS junior who is enrolled in a both a construction and marketing class, said “this process has helped me understand the importance of treating others with respect and including others.”

Gregory believes Dragons United will make a positive impact at NHS. “We are all different, but when we work together and get to know one another we learn things that we have in common.”
