District Vendor Fair, Convocation Set for Aug. 13

Nacogdoches ISD teachers and staff will celebrate the start of a new school year with the 2019 Convocation on Tuesday, Aug. 13.

The morning will start with breakfast and a vendor fair 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. in the main commons area at Nacogdoches High School. Breakfast will also be available in the 9th-grade building commons area.

The convocation program will begin in the NHS competition gym at 8:45 a.m. with the Golden Dragon Band and NHS choir performing. Interim Superintendent Alton Frailey will serve as the convocation speaker.

“Convocation is an opportunity to celebrate the start of a new school year and all the good things that go with that,” Frailey said. “It’s also a chance for me to express appreciation to our teachers and staff as well as provide a bit of motivation for the upcoming year.”

During the Aug. 13 program, NISD will recognize state Rep. Travis Clardy and state Sen. Robert Nichols for their support of public education during the recently completed 86th Texas Legislature.

Door prizes will be awarded during the convocation program, and all teachers and staff that attend the vendor fair and breakfast will receive a gift bag.

Presenting Sponsors for 2019 Convocation are Whataburger, WRL General Contractors and PBK Architects. Golden Dragon Sponsors are Nacogdoches Medical Center, Dr. David Luquette, Excel ER, Jamie M. Rodrigues-State Farm, law firm Perdue, Brandon, Fielder, Collins & Mott LLP, SFA Alumni, Signarama and Spirit Outfitters.

The first day of school for students in Nacogdoches ISD is Monday, Aug. 26.
