Bids for two construction projects funded by a 2018 bond election were accepted Jan. 21 by Nacogdoches ISD trustees.

The board unanimously approved awarding to Cox Contractors the project that will replace HVAC systems at Mike Moses Middle School. The total project cost for the HVAC and roof replacement is $1,359,295 and will come from bond funds approved by voters in November 2018.

Trustees also unanimously approved spending $619,154.65 of bond funds to build a new drop-off/pick-up driveway around Fredonia Elementary. The work will include preparation of the site, cement pour and cleanup. The bid was awarded to Drewery & Wheaton LLC.

Both projects will take place this summer.

The work at Mike Moses Middle School is of plans to refurbish the campus before its converted to an elementary school. That conversion will not take place until a classroom addition at McMichael Middle School is completed sometime next year and the two middle schools are combined into one location.

The new driveway at Fredonia Elementary is the first step towards transforming the campus to an early childhood center that will house the district’s Pre-K program under one roof.
