Informational Governance Workshop: Public School Boards

Informational Governance Workshop: Public School Boards

Governance Workshop

This was a FREE workshop and all Nacogdoches county school districts and residents were invited to attend. Candidates who are running in the May 2017 upcoming school board elections were encouraged but not required to attend. Attendance was not mandatory to run in the May 2017 election.

The focus of the workshop was to inform and engage the community and possible candidates who may be interested in running for school board or just want to know more how our public schools are governed - this was a great workshop to attend.

Representatives from the Region 7 ESC presented an overview of the rules, responsibilities and commitments of public school board members at the workshop. Texas Education Agency (TEA) Deputy Commissioner AJ Crabill lead an informational session discussing school board governance and priorities. Crabill discussed information he believes community and board members need to know, which ranged from the difference between academic outputs and outcomes to the state accountability system.
